"By ranking and academy" is now available as a bracket seeding method and is now the default when generating brackets. The previous academy-only method tried to separate teammates across the bracket but had no awareness of who was actually the strongest competitor — meaning the top two ranked athletes in a category could easily end up on the same half of the bracket and meet in an early round, even when academy separation was handled correctly.

The new method treats ranking as the first priority. It reads each competitor's MartialMatch all-time ranking points for the discipline used by that bracket, then protects the strongest seeds so that top-ranked competitors land on opposite finalist paths and are unlikely to meet before the semi-finals or the final. Once those ranking priorities are settled, the system applies the same academy separation logic as before, keeping teammates as far apart as the remaining open positions allow.

In a benchmark run against historical bracket data, the new method reduced serious early seeding conflicts by about 48% compared to the academy-only approach, while still treating academy separation as a meaningful second priority.

There are situations where teammates can still meet early, and that is by design. If many competitors share the same academy, if a top-ranked competitor has an unranked teammate who gets placed nearby together with other unranked athletes, or if the category is simply too small to avoid every teammate clash — the system will not sacrifice a top seed's path just to keep every teammate pair apart. The strongest seeds also receive any BYEs first, since a free pass is an advantage that belongs with the best-protected competitors.

The page was rewritten from scratch as an interactive app. On smaller screens, each competitor is now displayed as a compact card instead of a wide table row, so the list is easy to read without horizontal scrolling. Category headings stay pinned to the top of the screen as you scroll, so you always know which category you are looking at. Scroll position is also restored when you navigate back from a competitor profile, so you land exactly where you left off.
Search across the entire starting list. A search bar is now pinned near the top of the public starting lists page. You can type a competitor's name, academy, branch, nationality, or category name, and the list filters instantly. Categories with no matching competitors are hidden entirely. When no results match your query, a clear "no results" message is shown. The search term is also preserved in the URL, so you can share a filtered view or refresh the page without losing your search.

For each event you can expand the list of its individual saved rankings and tick whichever ones you want to include. Once you have selected at least one ranking — even across several different events — you can click "Merge & Download CSV" to generate a single unified ranking on the spot. The merge identifies competitors by their profile, sums their scores and match results across every selected ranking, sorts the combined list by total score, and streams the result straight to your browser as a CSV file. No merged data is saved to the server; you can re-generate it at any time with a different selection.
Each individual saved ranking on an event's Rankings tab now has its own "Download CSV" button, so you can export a single ranking without touching the full-event export

If the change would affect brackets or other related data, the modal shows those side effects before you confirm, and after the action the system can automatically repair eligible problems for you instead of leaving everything to be fixed manually. If the registration has a confirmed payment and cannot be deleted, the modal now makes that clear immediately so you know why removal is blocked. The same side-effect handling also applies when copying a competitor to another category, making these organizer actions much easier to understand and safer to use

Step 1 covers the essentials: event name, event type, and start/end dates. Step 2 asks for the country, venue, and contact details (email and phone). Step 3 is the registration planner: you pick when registration opens (today, in 1 week, in 2 weeks, or a custom date), choose a close-gap preset that controls how many days before the event registration shuts (1, 3, 5, 7 days, or custom), and decide how many registration stages to use (1, 2, or 3). Each stage gets a duration field with a human-readable date hint so you can immediately see the open and close dates. A live status line at the bottom confirms the setup is valid or shows a red error if the stages overlap the event date. Step 4 lets you upload a logo and a background image — both are held in the browser until the final step. Step 5 offers an optional free-text field for public event information (rules, schedule notes, anything you want competitors to read on the event page; Markdown is supported). At the end of step 5 the entire wizard payload is submitted in a single request, images are uploaded, and the event-status modal opens so you can immediately publish or submit for review. If you leave the wizard before finishing, no draft is created and no partial data is saved. Experienced organizers who prefer working in the full editor can click "Skip wizard — go to full editor" on step 1 to create a blank draft and open the editor directly as before
Setup checklist inside the event editor — draft events now display a collapsible progress checklist beneath the event status indicator. It tracks six items: tournament name, event dates, location, contact info, images, and categories. A progress bar shows how many are done at a glance. Each incomplete item is a clickable chip that jumps you directly to the relevant editor tab or the categories management page. Once all six items are complete the checklist is replaced by a green success notice and disappears permanently when the event is published

Discipline Packages — a new "Configure disciplines" page is now available from the Brackets section. Before generating brackets, each sport discipline present in your event (BJJ, Wrestling, Kata, Judo, MMA, etc.) must have its own discipline package configured. The package defines two things: which scoreboard variant to use for fights in that discipline, and which bracket type to use based on the number of competitors in a category (e.g. 2–3 competitors → Round Robin, 4+ → Single Elimination). This replaces the single global bracket configuration with a proper per-discipline setup, so a single event can now have BJJ categories run with one set of bracket rules and Wrestling categories run with a completely different set — without any manual per-bracket overrides
Override groups inside discipline packages — within each discipline package you can create named override groups (e.g. "Junior rules") that apply different bracket type ranges to a specific subset of categories. For example, you can have adult BJJ categories use Single Elimination from 4 competitors, while junior BJJ categories use Round Robin up to 6 and only switch to Single Elimination at 7+. Categories not covered by any override automatically use the Default tab settings. Override groups are created by clicking the [+] button in the discipline package form, selecting the categories to cover, and saving
Inline warning on the Brackets page — if any discipline in the event has not yet been configured, a yellow warning banner now appears on the Brackets listing page with a direct link to the "Configure disciplines" page. This makes it easy to spot missing configuration before running bulk bracket generation

The "scoreboard" field on category tree nodes has been renamed to "discipline". It no longer asks you to pick a specific scoreboard variant (previously 13 options) — instead it simply tags a branch of the categories tree as belonging to a sport discipline (BJJ, Submission Fighting, MMA, Combat Ju-Jutsu, Wrestling, Grappling, Judo, Kata, and more). The specific scoreboard variant (e.g. standard BJJ vs. BJJ Blue/Red) is now chosen in the discipline package during bracket preparation, not at category setup time. Discipline tags are inherited down the tree just like before — setting the discipline on a root node applies it to all nested categories automatically
The "Default configuration" modal has been simplified. Bracket type rules (which bracket type to use based on category size) and the preset template loaders (IBJJF, Wrestling, Submission Fighting) have moved out of this modal and into discipline packages. The modal now contains only two global event-level options: which competitors to include in brackets based on payment and verification status, and whether to generate brackets for categories that have only one competitor
Bracket type rules defined in a discipline package are automatically applied when generating all brackets in bulk — no need to set them manually on each bracket. When creating a single bracket for a specific category, the system pre-loads the bracket type options from the discipline package for that category's discipline
Kata discipline is now automatically handled by the discipline package system. The Kata scoreboard and Kata bracket type are assigned through the Kata discipline package rather than being hardcoded internally, making Kata consistent with all other disciplines in terms of how it is configured and displayed
Orphaned discipline packages — if a discipline is removed from the categories tree after its package was already configured, the package is flagged with a warning on the "Configure disciplines" page rather than silently deleted.
